Find the Repairable Performance Car Deals Everyone Else Misprices

Performance repairables sell 40–60% below clean retail — but the spread between a smart deal and an expensive mistake is always the same thing: your all-in number. GearSwap AI estimates repair risk, compares clean market value, and calculates your bid ceiling before the auction goes live.

No more guessing. No more gut-feel bids. Just the maths, before it matters.

Repairable Write-Offs Can Be Goldmines — Or Money Pits

The difference between the two is always the same thing: knowing your number before you bid.

🚫

Not every damaged car is a deal

A repairable write-off at the wrong price is worse than buying clean. Miss the repair estimate by $20k and you’ve turned a 40%-below-retail opportunity into a vehicle you can’t sell at a profit.

💸

The bid price is only the start

Add repair costs, compliance, rego, transport, and holding costs. The auction hammer is just the beginning. Most people discover this after they’ve already won.

🧠

Emotion kills margin

Auctions are designed to make you bid more than you planned. The only protection is a hard ceiling you calculated before you walked in — not a gut feeling you formed in the yard.

What GearSwap Helps You See

Before you bid, GearSwap gives you the full picture — not just the asking price.

Estimated repair cost range — AI-assessed from auction photos across all 21 damage zones, structured by repair category.
Clean market comparison — live data on what an undamaged equivalent sells for today, so you know your post-repair ceiling.
All-in cost calculator — auction buy + repair + compliance + rego + transport, built automatically into a single number.
Maximum bid ceiling — the price at which the deal makes sense, with your target margin built in before the auction starts.
Damage zone breakdown — 21-zone structural analysis that separates panel damage from structural risk, so you know what you’re actually buying.
Report type classification — GearSwap tells you whether the vehicle is a Repairable, a Statutory Write-Off, or a straight Valuation case.
Pre-auction intelligence, not post-purchase regret — every number is available before you bid, not after you’ve already raised your hand.

Five Steps from Listing to Bid Ceiling

1

Paste the listing

Drop in any Pickles, IAAI, or Manheim listing URL. GearSwap pulls every image, lot detail, and vehicle spec automatically — no manual data entry.

2

Estimate the repair risk

Our AI analyses all 21 body zones from auction photos, identifies damage severity, and produces a structured repair cost range before you’ve ever spoken to a panel shop.

3

Compare against clean market value

GearSwap pulls live market data to show what a clean equivalent sells for today — so you know your post-repair ceiling before you commit to a bid.

4

Know your all-in number

Auction price + repair estimate + compliance, rego, and transport = your real cost. The P&L calculator builds this automatically so there are no nasty surprises post-auction.

5

Set a bid ceiling

Walk in with a number you’ve calculated, not a feeling. Your max bid is the price at which the deal still makes sense — with margin built in before the adrenaline kicks in.

Know More About What You’re Buying Before You Drive to the Yard.

Other tools give you a single damage score. GearSwap maps damage across 21 specific body zones — from front bumper to rear tailgate, including all panels, glass, wheels, and mechanical components.

Each zone gets:

  • Damage severity score (1–10)
  • Estimated repair cost
  • Post-repair market value impact

The result: you know what the car could be worth repaired, what it will cost to get there, and a safer bid ceiling to carry into the auction. Not after. Before.

What Is a Repairable Write-Off?

If you’ve watched Mat Armstrong, Mark McCann, or any of the YouTube rebuild crew, you already know. If you’re new — here’s the short version.

repairie /rɪˈpɛəri/ n.

A repairable write-off vehicle purchased from auction — typically below 50–70% of retail — with the intention of professional repair, re-registration, and resale or personal use.

Unlike a statutory write-off (which is permanently unregisterable), a repairie is a legal, roadworthy opportunity hidden behind an insurer’s spreadsheet. The damage exists; the car’s future does not have to.

“We picked up a repairie at Pickles last Tuesday — 2023 G82 M4, rear-ended, cosmetic only. GearSwap had it at $58k, comps were $112k retail. Easiest decision we’ve made all year.” — typical Pickles buyer, circa every Tuesday
Not to be confused with statutory write-off — a vehicle declared uneconomical and structurally unsafe. Permanently removed from register. Cannot be re-registered in any Australian state or territory. Not a repairie. Not a project. A parts car, at best.

The insurer writes it off. You buy it cheap. You repair it.

A ‘repairie’ is our shorthand for a repairable write-off with potential — the kind of auction car buyers chase at Pickles, Manheim, IAAI and similar platforms. The damage is real. The opportunity is buying it at the right number. GearSwap AI helps you work out that number before you bid.

One Bad Bid Costs More Than a Year of Assessments.

A 2025 AMG GT at auction. The spread between the right bid and the wrong one.

Bidding Blind

  • You see a nice-looking car, bid $110k
  • Panel shop quote comes in at $38k, not the $15k you guessed
  • Post-repair retail: $165k. All-in cost: $148k. Margin: zero.
  • You now own a Facebook Marketplace motivational quote

With GearSwap

  • AI assessment shows $34k repair · 4 minutes
  • Post-repair market value: $162k — max bid: $88k
  • You win at $82k · all-in cost: $116k · margin: $46k
  • Or you keep it. The car your budget said you couldn’t afford.
The maths is simple. One assessment that saves you from a $20k overbid pays for two years of beta access. And if it gets you into the car — that’s the point.

Common Questions

No. GearSwap AI provides decision-support reports based on available auction data, listing photos, and market signals. It does not replace professional inspections, mechanical advice, or your own due diligence.
No. Repair costs and resale values can vary based on parts availability, workshop pricing, hidden damage, market conditions, and inspection outcomes. GearSwap AI gives you a structured estimate to help you make a better-informed decision.
GearSwap AI is being built around major auction sources including Pickles, Manheim, IAAI and similar vehicle auction platforms. Supported data may vary by listing.
No. Credits in the beta packs never expire.
Yes. The monthly beta plan can be cancelled anytime.
You’ll receive access instructions and can start running assessments on supported listings. During beta, feedback from early users will help shape the product.
GearSwap can help analyse statutory write-offs for damage severity and parts-value thinking, but statutory write-offs are generally not re-registerable in Australia. Treat them as parts-only unless proven otherwise by the relevant authority.

Use GearSwap Before You Bid

The difference between making money on a repairable write-off and becoming a cautionary tale is knowing your all-in number before the hammer falls. GearSwap gives you that number.
