About GearSwap Marketplace

GearSwap Marketplace is an Australian-owned platform that connects people who need quality recycled car parts with the country's licensed auto wreckers and dismantlers. We're built on the belief that buying a secondhand car part should be as straightforward as buying a new one — with the right fitment data, transparent seller information, and payment protection that gives both sides confidence.

Why We Exist

For decades, sourcing a used car part in Australia meant ringing twenty wreckers, leaving voicemails, sending blurry photos through Messenger and hoping the part actually fitted your vehicle. The process was fragmented, time-consuming and hit-or-miss on fitment. GearSwap Marketplace was built to fix that — aggregating Australia's wrecker network into a single, searchable, fitment-aware platform.

The Marketplace Model

GearSwap operates as a marketplace, not a retailer. We don't hold inventory. Instead, licensed auto wreckers list their stock on the platform and buyers purchase directly from them. GearSwap handles discovery, fitment matching, payment and buyer protection — the wrecker handles sourcing, grading, storage and fulfilment. This means buyers get genuine competition on price and condition, and wreckers reach a national audience without the overhead of running their own e-commerce.

How Seller Verification Works

Every seller on GearSwap goes through a multi-step onboarding process before their first listing goes live:

  • Identity verification: government-issued ID matched against business registration records.
  • ABN check: active Australian Business Number required for all sellers.
  • Dismantler licence verification where required by state law (VIC, QLD, WA, SA).
  • Inventory audit: new sellers list a sample batch which is reviewed for accurate grading before full approval.
  • Ongoing monitoring: buyer ratings, dispute outcomes and response-time scores are tracked continuously. Sellers who fall below threshold are paused pending review.

Buyer Protection — How It Works

Every transaction on GearSwap is covered by our buyer protection policy. When you pay for a part, your funds are held in escrow — the seller doesn't receive payment until you confirm the part has arrived and matches the listing description. If a dispute arises:

  • Raise a claim within 7 days of confirmed delivery.
  • GearSwap's dispute team reviews evidence from both sides — typically within 2 business days.
  • If the part was mis-described, not delivered, or significantly different from the listing, you receive a full or partial refund.
  • Sellers found to have mis-described parts face listing restrictions or suspension.

Fitment-Matched Search

Search results on GearSwap are filtered by year, make, model, series and body type so you only see parts that are confirmed to fit your vehicle. This eliminates the most common cause of returns on general classifieds sites — parts that looked right but weren't compatible. Sellers must specify fitment data at the time of listing; listings without fitment data are surfaced separately and clearly labelled.

Australian-Owned and Operated

GearSwap is headquartered in Australia and serves buyers and sellers across every state and territory. Our wrecker network spans metropolitan and regional areas, so whether you're in Sydney, Perth, Cairns or Ballarat, there's a verified supplier who can help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GearSwap a wrecker or a parts retailer?

Neither. GearSwap is a marketplace platform. We connect buyers with Australia's licensed auto wreckers. The wreckers hold the stock and fulfil the orders; GearSwap handles discovery, payment and buyer protection.

How does GearSwap make money?

GearSwap charges sellers a small transaction fee on each completed sale. Listing parts and responding to requests is free for verified sellers. Buyers pay no platform fee — you only pay the price the seller quotes.

Is GearSwap available outside Australia?

Currently GearSwap Marketplace serves buyers and sellers within Australia only. International shipping is at the seller's discretion and is not covered by our standard buyer protection policy.

How do I report a seller or a listing that looks suspicious?

Use the Report button on any listing or seller profile, or email support@gearswap.au. Reported listings are reviewed within one business day and suspended if they breach our seller terms.
