Fuel System parts — frequently asked questions
Are used fuel pumps reliable?
Used fuel pumps from low-kilometre donor vehicles are reliable, but they are wear items and most warranties on used fuel pumps are short. For high-pressure direct-injection pumps on modern petrol and diesel engines, confirm the donor's recorded kilometres — pumps stressed past 200,000 km often fail soon after fitting.
How much is a used fuel pump or injector?
Used in-tank fuel pumps for common cars typically run $80–$280. High-pressure direct injection pumps are usually $250–$800. Diesel injectors run $80–$300 each used; high-pressure common-rail injectors for late-model diesels can be more. Always quote per part.
Should I rebuild or replace fuel injectors?
Used injectors from a known-good donor are a low-cost way to replace one or two failed units. For a full set replacement, professionally rebuilt injectors with new nozzles and seats are often better value because they come matched and flow-tested.
Are used fuel tanks safe?
Plastic fuel tanks are generally safe used. Metal tanks can corrode internally over time — inspect for rust before fitting. Always rinse and pressure-test a used tank before installation, and replace the fuel filter and any in-tank seals at the same time.
